  • Letter sounds and phonics

  • Recognizing and reading sight words

  • Building simple sentences with correct punctuation

  • Understanding basic story structure (beginning, middle, end)

  • Listening to and discussing stories for comprehension

2nd Grade

  • Punctuation: periods, question marks, and exclamation marks

  • Identifying characters, events, and settings in stories

  • Improving reading fluency and expression

  • Retelling stories with key details

  • Basic sentence and paragraph writing

3rd Grade

  • Writing clear, well-organized paragraphs

  • Identifying the elements of story structure (characters, plot, setting)

  • Basic grammar: nouns, verbs, adjectives

  • Expanding vocabulary through reading

  • Using correct punctuation and capitalization in writing

4th Grade

  • Writing multi-paragraph essays with clear introductions, bodies, and conclusions

  • Identifying the main idea and supporting details in texts

  • Expanding vocabulary through context clues

  • Using commas, quotation marks, and apostrophes correctly

  • Organizing ideas logically in writing

5th Grade

  • Writing narrative and opinion essays with clear arguments

  • Using dialogue to develop characters and storylines

  • Comparing themes, settings, and plots across texts

  • Analyzing story structure and character development

  • Writing with purpose: focusing on clarity, detail, and organization

6th Grade

  • Conducting short research projects with proper citation

  • Writing persuasive essays with clear claims and evidence

  • Understanding and using figurative language (similes, metaphors, etc.)

  • Developing a strong thesis and supporting arguments

  • Analyzing texts for author’s purpose and point of view
